Euro 2012 In Ukraine: How Will It Be?

Ukraine is a western neighbor of Russia and eastern brother of Poland. Its location holds the geographic center of Europe, so it is more Europe than any other country on the continent. Nevertheless it hasn't still joined European Union, though it one of the most important goals for the near future.

In spite of unstable economical situation and constant political showdowns, Ukraine is seriously interested in Euro 2012. This championship is a great chance to unite the whole country under one common purpose, as well as attract foreign investors and tourists. That is why in 2007 Ukraine decided to take part in competition between European countries and has won the right to hold the UEFA Euro 2012 Championship together with Poland. By the way, it was third joint bid in the whole history of Euro holders' competition. Ukraine and Poland have fought down such competitors, as Italy and Croatia/Hungary. The last two also wanted to join their efforts for Euro 2012.

The dream has almost come true, but it turned out that Ukraine was not ready for such a serious challenge: the roads were awful, there are not enough hotels to place all football fans, there are no even enough stadiums for holding the matches. There is no place for professional football teams with appropriate conditions that will allow sportsmen to keep themselves in a good form during the tournament. And the main thing - there is no money to build everything that is missing.

The football games will take place in six Ukrainian cities: Kiev (the capital), Lviv (the western center), Donetsk (the eastern industrial city), Dnipropetrovsk (eastern business city), Odessa (the southern sea perl) and Kharkiv (the former capital). The last two cities are the reserve in case there will be some unforeseen occasions.

During the forthcoming Euro 2012 Kiev is planned to host three group games, one quarter-final and of course the main match of the tournament. All these matches will be held on the Olypmic Stadium that has about 83.5 thousand sits. Donetsk with its new Shakhtar Arena Stadium will meet three group matches, a quarter-final and semi-final, while both Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk will host three group matches each.

By the start of Euro 2012 Championship, the city will be significantly rebuilt. All the roads will be renewed, new traffic paths will be added to relieve the city centre. It is planned to build additional hotels for about 13 000 rooms. The airport will also be extended with one additional terminal. It is not confirmed yet, but also in Kiev the local authority is planning to build something like Disneyland - a huge entertainment centre that will host various amusements and places to rest in.

UEFA Euro Football Championship is the third main sport event in the whole world after Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup. And almost every football fan is planning to visit Ukraine in 2012.

The question is that such trips are usually carefully planned. You need to buy the tickets, to book apartments, to find out more about local attractions and national traditions. While Ukraine is mostly planning but not doing actually what it has planned, it can become a real problem to find appropriate place of living in its capital. Just imagine how much the apartments in new hotels will cost you. Of course Ukraine is planning to cover all the costs by the profit from Euro 2012, so we should expect big checks.

One sure variant is to book private Kiev apartments for daily rent. It is extremely popular service in the capital, there are lots of agencies providing it. The price for a separate flat with all conveniences will cost you even less than average hotel room.
