Ethernet Cables - Connecting A Pc

By:

Ethernet cables are an integral part of modern communication and Internet connectivity. They make it possible for a person sitting in their flat in London to play video games with a person on the other side of the world. The number of devices designed to be connected to the online world is growing every day. This means that many people are in the position to purchase additional Ethernet cables for the Internet connectable products in their homes. Thankfully, these cables are very inexpensive and can be purchased in a variety of lengths and even come in different levels of quality.

The lowest quality version of Ethernet cable is the Category 3. This particular type of Ethernet network cable has been almost completely replaced by the Category 5 which is capable of data transfer speeds of over 100 Mb per second. There is also the 5E which is a step up from the standard Category 5. The Cat 5E cable is more durable and is actually thinner than the standard Cat 5. While both of these cables are more than adequate for the home, experts generally recommend that an individual purchase a cable that is capable of data transfer speeds beyond what they currently require as a way of "future proofing" their residence.

Ethernet cables also come capable of gigabit per second speeds. These are known as Cat 6 cables and they are generally only used for applications when intense amounts of data are being transferred. When purchasing Ethernet cables for use in a person's home, it is usually a good idea to try and get one that is as close as possible to the length needed. Excess cable will clutter up the area and cost more than if an individual purchased exactly what they needed. Of course, if the Ethernet cables that are bought are a bit too long, it is not really an issue since these cables are surprisingly affordable in the first place.

Even if an individual is not currently in the market for Ethernet cables, it is a good idea to inspect the ones that are ready within the residence to ensure that they are in good working order. These cables can occasionally crack when exposed to sunlight and make wonderful chew toys for pets and small animals. In order to ensure that the Internet connectivity of a home is reliable and uninterrupted, it may be necessary to replace these cables from time to time.
