A job interview is one of the most important aspects of any person's life. It should be taken seriously, as it has the power to change your life. A successful interview for a particular job can help to make your dreams come true. If it is not taken seriously, you may miss out on a good job and once again have to go in search of employment. Research has shown that today's youth is not sure about what to take to a job interview. The following are some guidelines about what to take to a job interview:

Take something that will keep you occupied. For some people this will be a novel, for others it may be a magazine or even a joke book. This will help to relieve any tension and something humorous may even lighten your mood. Some people become worried unnecessarily about the interview and stress themselves, sometimes to the point of making themselves sick.

Tension can lead to symptoms such as a headache or stomach upset, so ensure that you have some "emergency" medication with you to keep a check on any problems instance, aspirin or other analgesics for headaches and antacids for the stomach. Bring some chocolate or some any other high sugar snack that is small enough to finish in a few bites and is easily digested. Eat these snacks if you have not had a proper meal as a stop gap. Do not chew gum or have coffee or soft drinks and avoid cigarettes. If you have a mobile phone, switch it off and there is really no need to bring other electronic gadgets such as i pods to the interview.

Ensure that you have your own personal supply of tissues. If you are required to stay overnight in a hotel for a job interview, bring the necessary clothes in which you will feel comfortable. Women should include an additional pair of pantyhose in case of holes or ladders. You should also bring a pair of shoes that are extremely comfortable to wear and that are clean and highly polished. These shoes should preferably be black.

Bring some extra copies of your resume in the event that the company asks for extra copies. It is extremely important that do not forget to bring all the necessary documents that you have to present during an interview. These documents would usually include your most recent qualification certificate and a birth certificate or proof of age. If you have worked previously in another company, you should bring proof of this position with you.

Take the list of references of those people with whom you worked in the previous company. It is a good idea to bring a briefcase to your job interview as a briefcase does not only enhance your professional elegance, it is also a great way to store all your necessary documentation safely and neatly. Bring a pen and a notebook with you and put that in your briefcase as well. Bring job skills portfolio if it is applicable and/or work samples if they are relevant. A breath freshener such as mints, is an essential in case you have bad breath. Fresh breath is a sure way to instill confidence and you will be able to speak without any concerns.
