RAF (Royal Air Force) is one of the oldest air force in the world. It has a large number of personnel across different disciplines. This air force has been adoration to many individuals across the world. As a result, it has attracted personnel from the whole of European region, and the world as a whole. There are various careers within the RAF. RAF officers have various duties in the welfare, career development and discipline of the air force which include the airmen and airwomen.

Basically, the Royal Air Force is composed of two divisions. It is composed of the operational force; otherwise referred to as the strike force, and the training and personnel command. The personnel and training category has the responsibility of recruiting, training and managing the wellbeing of the force.

There are numerous career positions you can choose from as a Royal Air Force officer. You can choose from over 20 areas of specialization, each with different duties and responsibilities. There are such areas as air operations, operations support, engineering and logistics, support services, royal marine, medical and nursing among others. For instance, if you choose to enter in the area of air operations, there are career personnel such as pilots and weapon system officers who have the duties of carrying out reconnaissance, flying sorties and carrying out search and rescue responsibilities.

In Operations support category, there are personnel such as flight operations officers and air traffic controllers. They have the responsibilities of coordinating refueling of the flights, providing board information, mapping digital terrains while preparing plans for various missions in the force. You can join the Engineering and Logistics category as an aircraft and communication engineer. The duties and responsibilities of the personnel include to commission new aircrafts, to service aircrafts and manage related resources and personnel.

To join Royal Air Force, you must be aged not less than 17 years and 6 months. You should be a UK national or republic of Ireland or be a citizen of commonwealth. If you have a dual citizenship with Britain and another country you can as well join the force. You are also supposed to have attained at least 5 GCSE (A-C), with Maths and English included. In addition, you are supposed to have two A levels or qualifications with similar value of education.

However, some jobs such as clinical officers, paramedics or medics will require additional qualifications such as degree of professional qualifications. All this is determined during a series of tests which include tests for fitness, practical initiatives and tests for aptitude.
