Essential Features To Consider When Buying Hp Laser Printer

By:

From offices, business establishments to busy homes, having an HP laser printer around can be beneficial. It's capable of producing professional looking printouts. Likewise, it's usually quicker and more economical than its inkjet rival. If currently you're planning to get one for yourself, there are certain key specifications that you need to consider.

It can come with different connectivity interfaces. Which interface to go for will depend solely on where you wish to install the machine. If it's going to be used at home or the office and plugged into a single computer, having a hi-speed USB 2.0 connectivity feature is sufficient. But if it's going to be installed in a place where several different computers need to access it, choose something with an inbuilt Ethernet port.

Wireless connectivity interfaces can be found in some models. Such feature is especially suitable if it has to be installed within a network while minimizing unnecessary clutter. Often used in large workplaces, some machines may be wireless-ready while others have built-in capabilities. A wireless-ready model is cheaper, but an optional dongle is bought separately.

Take note of specifications such as the first page out and pages per minute (ppm). Measured in seconds, the first page out tells how long it takes the printer to have the page in the output tray from the time it received data from the computer. As with the ppm, the figure next to it needs to be higher if you always need to beat deadlines. Usually, a machine can come up with more monochrome prints than color ones per minute.

Decide whether what you need is something which can come up with monochrome prints only or both monochrome and color ones. A monochrome machine often comes with a more affordable price tag, and it's what you need for producing texts in black-and-white and images in grayscale. On the other hand, a color machine has a steeper price tag.

The resolution is all about the amount of dots which can be placed within an inch on the surface of the paper. It's measured in dpi, short for dots per inch. You can enjoy crisper texts and professional quality graphics the higher the resolution is. Something that has a 600 dpi x 600 dpi resolution is good enough for text-only documents. Something higher than that, like a 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi one, may be needed if you need to work on graphics as well.

Consider the internal memory available. Such is an important feature because of the way this machine works: an image of the entire document is sent to the printer. That's why it's essential for it to have a large internal memory, expressed in megabytes (MB) so it can handle multiple or complex tasks. A memory expansion feature is definitely a plus.

HP laser printer may also come with other functionality aside from producing quality printouts. Called a multifunction printer or MFP, it's highly suited for use in busy workplaces or businesses with space constraints. Often an MFP is also capable of copying, scanning and sending or receiving fax. Going for such can be more economical than buying several different machines.
