Esl Jobs- What Are Your Options?

By:

Due to the economic downturn of recent times, many people in the West are now seeking to teach English as a foreign language due to the fact that the cost of living in many of these countries is extremely low when compared to the salary of the average teacher.
As you can imagine, there are numerous countries that you can choose to take up your teaching career yet just a small handful of these remain high up on the list as the top destination for teaching English as a Second language (ESL).

Perhaps one of the easiest countries for you to make your transition into the world of ESL is Thailand. The friendly and supportive nature of most people in this country mean that as soon as you arrive at the airport, you will feel welcomed by everyone you meet. Another great aspect about becoming a teacher in this country is the fact that teachers are highly respected and often hold the term 'Ajahn'.

Whilst this still is a foreign country and people here are extremely proud of their heritage, they are also an open mind nation who put a huge emphasis on the importance of using English as the language of business which will ultimately help them develop industries within their own country.

However, if you do plan to come to Thailand to teach, remember that the salary can be quite low in some areas and VISA regulations can often change from one month the next so rarely will you have a dull moment if you do decide to teach in the 'Land of Smiles.'

Another popular destination for ESL jobs is South Korea. In fact, many people who previously worked in Thailand as ESL teachers find themselves travelling overseas to South Korea in search of attractive salaries and significant 'end-of-contract' bonuses. The financial aspect of teaching in this country is certainly an attractive one yet the biggest difference between teaching in South Korea and Thailand is the fact that the culture can be an extremely difficult one to break into.

This does not necessarily mean that people from this country are less friendly than Thai people but you certainly need to have a deep understanding and level of respect for people in South Korea to really understand their culture and enjoy your career as a teacher.

Finally, perhaps one of the easiest destinations for ESL jobs in Spain. For those who have already travelled to Spain, you will know that many natives already have a good grasp of the English language and are accustomed to the ways of native English speakers in Britain or America for example.

This makes it an extremely easy place to teach English as many of your students will already be at an intermediary level allowing you to simply construct an exciting and interesting ESL lesson, without the worry of people completely misunderstanding you.
Spain is also extremely easy place to obtain a visa and unlike the two previously mentioned Asian countries, Spain is an easy place to purchase Western foods and obtain all your Western necessities.
