Take A Stand Against Spam On Your Social Networking Sites

As an online marketer I spend a considerable amount of time on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace. Over the past few months I am noticing an alarming trend in my business and it is one that you should take into consideration too. It is sucking the life out of your business and leaching all of your time without producing dime one!

Wondering where my days kept disappearing to and why my results were less than satisfactory, I started to track the time that I spend on these sites.

There was on activity that monopolized my time more than anything else I did on these sites.

My bet is you do this too without even noticing it because it is everywhere!

SPAM!

That's right. Wading through the endless amount of spam to find the one or two tidbits, profiles or bit of information that could help my business or someone else's was taking up more than 79% of my time in the social networking sites I was part of.

This included reading countless spammy messages, signing up for webinars that were nothing but another pitch for more programs to join or buy, sifting through cut and paste messages from people looking to add me in as a friend to throw their business down my throat, watching videos that provided no real information, joining groups that offered no helpful content and on and on.

It was shocking!

My profiles were full of 'friends' that were only out to promote their own thing and not get to know me at all.

Sites all over the internet are cracking down on spammers so I figured why should my site and my profiles be any different?

Now, anyone that sends me a link to a company video or a message with the "I've got the greatest business since sliced bread" is removed from my friends, viewers, or contacts. Plain and simple.

They say you are only as smart as the people you choose to hang around with. I choose to spend my time with others that are contributing to the community and bettering it for everyone.

I am on these social networking sites to learn, connect and share with others and if people are only there to send blatant messages about their so called amazing company and it's unbelievable products then I don't need them in my circle.

My time is too important to waste on sifting through the crap to get to the messages that I want to read. That is time that I could have spent helping someone else or learning something worth while for my own business.

So I have taken a stand against spam.

I have employed a two strike policy. One message = warning. Another = deletion.
