While all companies wish to create the best environment for their employees to perform well, some of them hesitate when it comes to investing in really good office furniture. This unwillingness to spend some money on proper ergonomic chairs can prove to be costly in terms of lost productivity. A recent survey that was conducted in companies of a range of industries has revealed that 86% employees think that they suffer from discomfort because of their office equipment. More than half the respondents of the survey, which was reported in FacilityBlog, said that a more comfortable workspace could increase their productivity.
Therefore, employers who wish to attract the most talented people in the industry and get the most out of them should invest in better office furniture. And chairs should be given the most attention because almost every second respondent of the survey gave grade 'C' or lower to their office chairs and, more than half the respondents said that they would choose ergonomic chairs if they could ask for one thing to be changed.
Apart from reducing the physical stress of sitting all day, the ergonomic chairs also ensure that the employees do not have to deal with back or neck pain. These may not always induce people to bunk office, but affected the overall performance of the employee is affected.
When you are choosing ergonomic chairs, keep the following things in mind:
- Specific tasks require specific types of seating systems. If you wish to buy something that will fulfill most purposes, choose the multi-function models.
- The seat depth, tilt tension, arm height, and chair height should be adjustable.
- The users should be able to make the adjustments to their chairs easily. There is really no point in having a number of adjustable components if the users find it difficult to make the adjustments.
- The chair should enable the user to sit comfortably without slouching or overarching their back. Not only are these incorrect postures bad for the spine, the blood circulation to the legs is also reduced when people sit incorrectly.
When you are adjusting the height of the ergonomic chair, make sure that you can comfortably keep your feet flat on the ground. Also make sure that your hips are an inch or so higher than your knees because this will reduce the chances of lower back pain.
