Enjoy Sheffield for it's nightlife!

Sheffield is in south yorkshire, great britain. it was given the name sheffield because the city started in a field on the River Sheaf. the city's popular was thought to be 525,800 in 2006, & it is one of the 8 biggest english cities outside London.

It's traditionally known as an industrial city, which is renowned for manufacturing steel. The city's steel working heritage was shown in the 1997 british film, The Full Monty.

Sheffield won world wide fame during the nineteeth century for its manufacture of steel. in actual fact, most innovations in the steel work industry were conceived in sheffield, including crucible (now the name of a theatre in the city) and stainless steel. however, competition from other countries caused a decline in these popular local industries during the seventies and eighties. at the same time, the national coal industry collapsed nearby, which caused mass unemployment and affected Sheffield's population.

Recently, Sheffield's economy has revitalised and, due to its thriving music and film scene, its become well-known as a cultural hub.

You'll locate loads of wonderful things to do in Sheffield. In fact, the city has some wonderful museums & galleries, which are worth a visit. These include the wonderful graves gallery, which has some fantastic artwork by artists such as Cezanne, Turner & Sam taylor-wood. It also holds regular touring exhibitions.

A handful of other wonderful museums & art galleries are the Millennium Galleries and Bishops House.

With the meadowhall shopping centre & a good high street, Sheffield is a wonderful place for shoppers. in actual fact, you will find everything from kooky independent shops to renowned brands such as New Look & hmv.

If you'd rather explore the great outdoors, you will be pleased to know that Sheffield has 2 million trees, nearly eighty parks & ten council gardens. These are the perfect place to relax & enjoy a peaceful picnic.

Sheffield is well known for its wonderful night life, which means that its visitors are always in for a treat. whether you prefer sipping cocktails in one of the city's exclusive wine bars or a swift pint of beer in one of its quaint pubs, you will find something for everyone in this city.

In addition to these watering holes, Sheffield also boasts some snazzy clubs & live music venues. These include the leadmill & the Red House.

Sheffield has great road links and can be easily reached from most major english cities. in addition to this, the city is well served by rail, with frequent trains running from Sheffield train station to a wide variety of locations throughout the uk.

There is also an airport close by, Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The airport is located 18 miles from the city centre and is mainly served by budget airlines, such as Thomsonfly.
