Engineering Services Mobile-learning New Skills

Most engineers are much happier to work on difficult water networks or hydrostatic problems than try to market their own engineering services in Mobile, or any place else in America. This isn't because and engineer can't grasp marketing, they just don't feel comfortable learning something new. Fortunately marketing and management skills aren't that hard to learn.

An engineer who is progressing in their career will move away from the technical design and analysis side of the job to focus on more managerial tasks. An engineering department head will likely divide his day between 95% management duties, and 5% engineering. The project engineer, usually the lowest man on the engineering pole, does the opposite, focusing the vast majority of his time on design and analysis. Some engineers never make it as managers because they have difficulty learning business skills.

A person can learn business skills, however, and the engineer can continue his education through courses and training seminars. Marketing for engineering, many engineers will learn, is not like marketing for other types of businesses. An engineer who continues their education in this path might even become quite adept at many different types of marketing campaigns. Engineering marketing only really needs one thing: communicating your knowledge and passion for engineering to prospective clients.

Communicating this knowledge might be easier than an engineer might at first think. Many engineers are already familiar with writing technical reports, and making presentations on technical analysis and designs. Communicating your business to interested audiences is the best way to market your engineering.

Continuing Education Courses that focus on the business side of engineering are the best place to seek out new skill sets. Continuing education can be found in two main ways seminars and study courses. When an attendee registers and is present throughout the seminar, they receive a Certificate of Completion along with the Professional Development Hours.

Study courses can be completed over a couple of weekends at the Community College or at your convenience on online through a continuing education website. Since engineering marketing is very unique, the likelihood of finding a course at the Community College that is acceptable to the State Licensure Board is about nil. One of the best ways to find these sites is to search the internet with the key words "engineering business continuing education".

Most of the State Licensing Boards require Professional Engineers to renew their professional licenses periodically with a minimum number of continuing education units. These units are usually Professional Development Hours (PDH) or Continuing Education Units (CEU). One PDH is equivalent to one hour of course education, and one CEU is equivalent to ten PDH or ten hours of course education.

Transforming yourself from an engineer into a manager can be a difficult process, but find the information shouldn't be. To best represent your engineering services in Mobile, it is important to learn everything you can about marketing and management.
