Energy Saver

By:

Global warming is real and threatening to destroy our planet. The carbon dioxide and other gases produced when we burn fossil fuels to power our homes have created a blanket around the Earth which stops heat escaping into the atmosphere.

Consequently, the world is hotter than it should be. Rising temperatures are already causing changes in our weather systems which could destroy the habitats of many plants and animals and also negatively affect our health.

Since over 40% of carbon dioxide emissions in the UK are produced in the home, we all have a role to play in saving our planet.

There are many ways to cut energy use in the home; the following are some suggestions.

1) Home Insulation

The best thing about insulating your home is that you will not only be doing your bit for the environment, but you will also be saving money. Cavity insulation, loft insulation, floor insulation, draft proofing, pipe and tank insulation, solid wall insulation as well as double glazing are means by which you can reduce your energy consumption and keep yourself warmer in the winter, without turning up your radiators.

2) Green gadgets

So youve changed all your lights to low-energy bulbs? Whats more? Energy providers and other companies offer a whole host of green gadgets, which can help you to cut down your emissions and your energy bills. For example, standby savers work as multi-sockets, but the difference is that it detects when you switch off your TV with the remote control and cuts the power to all of the appliances. Solar shed lights use the sun rays to power your garden and do not require leads running from the house.

3) Energy saving boilers

Upgrading your boiler could lower the amount of energy that you both use and lose! Old boilers tend to be energy inefficient and many energy suppliers will offer to change them for you and help you to save the planet.

4) Solar panels

Solar water heating systems can supply you with 50-70% of your hot water, without you paying any bills! They use the suns rays and store up energy so that they can even work on cloudy days.
