To attract visitors and to keep them coming back, you need great content that is updated regularly. Of course your posts have to be on the subjects that interest them.

If your blog can keep their interest and solve their problems, then you are on the right track.

Your readers will want to leave comments and share their thoughts. You must make this as easy as possible for them. He lest hurdles they have to jump through, the more likely they will be to contribute and interact.

The previous chapters have shown you are to cut back on spam by setting up Wordpress the correct way. You also have discovers some valuable plugins that will help you fight the spam that is sure to come.

The key is to find the right balance where the spam is minimal while not setting up barricades to your readers. If it's too difficult to post comments then most won't.

Once you find that balance then it will become much easier for you to maintain a healthy and productive blog.

Now to encourage your readers to add their comments there are things you can do. Your blog is setup to be user friendly, but you may have to nudge them just a bit to get their feedback.

One way to do this is to ask questions. The best time is at the end of your post. Ask them what they think about it and encourage their involvement.

Don't force them to sign in to add their comments. At least not right away. If you start to receive so many comments and the spam is piling up, then you may want to require them to register and sign in.

Don't do this too early though. Be sure you have a large audience that will post their comments before you go that route.

Be sure to respond to their comments, show that you are interested, and value their thoughts.

Keep the conversations going. Make comments that make people think, add questions and make them want to reply.

Don't forget to ask for comments. Use plugins such as Disqus and Comment Luv to encourage them. Get a debate going.

You can display top commentators to make it a competition. Use a plugin such as "Top Commentators Widget". It will acknowledge your most loyal followers.

The most important thing to remember is to have high quality content that is updated regularly and is of interest to your readers.

With some hard work up front you can get the ball rolling and soon the momentum will keep it going forward with just a little effort on your part.
