Enchanting Temples Of Tripura

Bhuvaneswari Hindu Temple

Boasting of brilliant architecture, this temple was built in the 17th century on the banks of Gomati River in Udaipur town of Tripura. This town is popularly known as the temple town of Tripura. The temple is mentioned in two plays of Rabindranath Tagore. It was constructed on a 3 feet high paved terrace. Its roof reflects four-chaala style architecture and has stupa like crowns on the entrance and core chambers. Its beautiful floral motifs are notable. It is located at a distance of 55km from the capital city. There are several other beautiful temples located in close vicinity of this temple. The Royal Palace is another attraction near the temple.

Kamlasagar Kali Temple

Reflecting the cultural richness of Tripura, this Kali temple is a famous religious site here. Overlooking the arresting Kamala Sagar Lake, the temple is surrounded by sheer natural beauty. Its location on a hillock makes it all the more wonderful. It is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Its history dates back to the 17th century. During the times of festivals it attracts many a devotees. The main shrine houses an image of the goddess. The temple is located at a distance of only 27 km from the capital city.

Tripura Sundari Temple

It is also located in Udaipur town on the Dhanisagar hillock. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hindus. The priests of the temple wear red clothes. It was built in the 16th century by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Debbarma. Goddess Kali is worshipped in its sanctum sanctorum. Two identical images of the same deity named Chhotima are enshrined inside the main shrine. The temple complex is in the shape of a Kurma, which means tortoise. The shrine is also called Kurma Pitha. Kalyan Sagar is a lake near the shrine which teems with fishes and tortoise.
