Emergence Of Nursing Schools Across The Globe

Florence Nightingale is considered to be the pioneer in the field of Nursing Schools. Back in the year 1860 this lady did something so great for humanity and mankind that she is fondly remembered for that. It was she who started the trend of nurses- trained and educated ladies who look after the patients in hospitals. They assist the doctors in taking care of the patients and help them in their early recovery.

More than a century and some decades back when a war broke out in Europe, Florence Nightingale was so touched by the pathetic conditions of the patients in the hospital that she used to take a lamp and move from one bed to another of the patients and feel pity for them. She would spend sleepless nights rendering her services to the patients and hence people began to address her as The Lady with the lamp. This aroused the immediate need of hiring women (most preferred for this job because of their compassionate behavior) in hospitals and nursing homes to look after the patients. It was in the year 1860 that the first Nursing School was established by her known as Nightingale Training School for Nurses.

The main intention of developing Nursing Schools according to Florence Nightingale was to impart quality education training to the candidate so that they could serve and look after the patients well. This would help in the development of not only the observational skills of the nurses but even increase their sensitivity towards the needs of the patients.

Once well versed with all these aforesaid skills they could be employed in hospitals to serve mankind with their noble service towards people in distress. Although initially this profession was not looked up to and well to do families never supported their daughters who desired to become a nurse. It was considered very low grade job and disliked by most but Florence Nightingales efforts have paid off and now nursing is one of the sought after professions for most after clearing their intermediate level and so many Nursing Schools have flourished over the years in different parts of the world.
