Electronic Driver Dispatching Software

By:

There are many different feature packages to choose from when comparing between different types and versions of dispatching software for your dispatch or courier company. Obviously, you want to pick a software package that has the features that you need the most; the ones that will give the largest benefit to your specific business. One feature that many companies look for that is becoming standard amongst nearly all dispatch software packages is integration with accounting software.

Another feature that is not yet ubiquitous, but which can be a huge boon to certain business, is electronic driver dispatch. Some people might not yet be familiar with electronic driver dispatch, so let us go over exactly what this refers to. Basically, this means that a driver can be sent a dispatch automatically and electronically, with little or no human interaction required, saving your dispatchers and your drivers time.

In addition to saving time on every pickup, having an electronic driver dispatch module in your dispatching software can make dispatching drivers for emergency and "hot" pickups faster and easier than ever. If you have a large fleet of drivers in the field at a given point in time, then you can simply utilize GPS and cross-reference the address for the "hot" pickup with the GPS database of where each of your drivers is and automatically have the pickup routed to the driver whom is the closest. Then, the system will simply send the closest driver a text message or a page with the information regarding the emergency pickup location.

When your courier company decides to install a more modern dispatching software package which includes features such as this, you often find that there are features that you will use which you didn't even realize were available when you first chose and implemented the system. For example, you will often immediately see the benefits from having a package that includes electronic driver dispatch in reduced time being getting an order and the actual pickup, and in saved money and greater efficiency.

However, as time goes by, you may realize that an unexpected benefit to the system is that you can track all of your drivers' exact locations in near real time, and have a log of their locations and routes throughout the day. This is why it is critical to constantly upgrade to the latest release of your dispatching software whenever the business budget can provide for it.
