Electronic Discovery Workflow Process

By:

Electronic discovery is the process in which information held within an electronic device, such as a computer is
found , stored and organized. There is more to the process than just that, but those are the basics. When it comes
to what the actual process of ediscovery entails, there is a model called the Electronic Discovery Reference Model
or EDRM in which it follows. Below is a breakdown of the workflow process of ediscovery.

Information management is the first step in the ediscovery process. This is basically where the preparation needed
before the actual process of ediscovery begins. It creates an electronic home for all the information to be stored
in. A safe place where all information is harbored until presentation is delivered.

The
second step in the electronic discovery reference model is the identification process. Information that is
significant to your organization is identified and this is usually one of the longest steps of the EDRM.

The third
step is the preservation and collecting of all the data found on the computer. Information will be stored in the
infrastructure or home that was created for it in the first step of the workflow process, information management.
It will stay here where it is safe from accidental harm or deletion.

The processing, reviewing and analyzing of data is all part of this next step. This is where data is reduced by
ridding of unwanted or duplicate documents. It is then reviewed and processed for relevant data. This step is the
overall process of where the minimizing of information takes place as well as the transferring of information into
an appropriate format.

The production process is the second to
last step and this where data is placed into its proper location. This is to help get it ready for presentation as
it lets the delivery of the data to be much faster. The information here will be able to be easily accessed when
searched for.

The presentation step is the final step and it when all your stored data is ready for presentation. Everything is
combined into an easily found, organized and accessible format for you to present as soon as needed.

The above steps are all part of electronic discovery's workflow
process that follows the EDRM. It was designed to aid you in the process of organizing, collecting and storing of
all relevant data so that you don't have to do it yourself. You won't need to pay others to do it for you because
the electronic discovery software will handle it for you in much less time than you could have it done manually.
There are just so many benefits to ediscovery software.
