One specific application that this
kinesio tape appears to be highly suited for is as a kinesio tape used to secure ostomy pouches to the skin. Ostomies are located on the abdomen, and therefore, require a kinesio tape that will both conform to the abdominal contours and move (or stretch) with the skin as the skin moves. Further, the kinesio tape used on ostomy pouches must be fastened to the pouch film in some manner, often by heat sealing the film and kinesio tape layers together. The
kinesio tape of the present invention can be directly sealed to typical ostomy pouch films and do not require an additional layer to form a seal to the pouch. The present kinesio tape constructions can be sterilized by gamma irradiation, with no loss to or only minimal effect on kinesio tape properties. This feature is a highly desirable attribute of medical kinesio tape and specifically
kinesio tape used to secure ostomy pouches to the peristomal region immediately after surgery.

an extensible nonwoven web comprising an elastomeric meltblown microfiber comprising a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, polyetherester, polyamide, and blends thereof and a sufficient amount of a heat bondable material wherein said medical
kinesio tape is capable of being heat or sonically bonded to a polymer substrate selected from the group consisting of polyethylene-based polymers and polyethylene-based copolymers; and a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive on at least one face of said web.
The
kinesio tape of the present invention have application as a medical kinesio tape in areas requiring conformability and/or elasticity, and where long term wear is desirable. The kinesio tape of the present invention possess good moisture vapor transmission, and therefore, allow more natural skin function. This feature allows the kinesio tape to be worn for longer periods of time than typical more occlusive
kinesio tape.
