Effects Of The Dtv Transition

By:

The first official date of the digital television transition was on January 17, 2009 but due to several million households and people that were not ready to make the switch, the date was moved to Friday, June 12, 2009. The digital television transition promises better picture and audio quality for all viewers, but has it kept true to its promise? Is it doing its job of providing more channels with better definition, or are viewers peeved with the less-than-promising results?

The DTV transition occurred to free up frequencies for emergency services, such as the fire and police departments and emergency personnel. Additional freed up frequencies were to be sold to companies that offer broadband services to clients because wireless services are important for many businesses and their employees and important for many individuals as well. With the 3G network available on some cell phones and the introduction of faster wireless networks, it is important that companies be able to provide faster service to their clients.

So far, the DTV transition has provided mostly positive results and has received positive acclaim from users. Many households that have configured their analog television sets properly with a digital converter box for use with a UHF/VHF antenna claim that more channels are now available. MTV tres and other channels that were not available before are available for viewing. Users also claim that the picture is much more clear and defined. Although the difference between analog and digital is subtle, many have still been able to discern the differences between one format to the other.

Some viewers, however, have claimed that the DTV transition has made their television viewing experience worse. Reception might cut in and out or some channels are not able to be picked up at all. It is important to check the configuration before buying new hardware as a simple tweak of the current set up could very well fix the problem. Since digital channels are broadcast on both UHF and VHF frequencies, it is important to note that the antenna used is capable of both frequencies. A visit to Antenna Web will depict the nearest broadcast towers to your location so you can rearrange your antenna to work optimally.

This digital television transition could perhaps lead the way to other standard formats of television viewing. As most are aware, high definition is quickly becoming the must-have technology in households as many people are flocking to upgrade their current home systems with a new high definition TV and complete surround sound theater system. DVDs might soon be obsolete as people upgrade to Blu-Ray or HD DVD for their movie viewing pleasure. HDTV owners and cable or satellite subscribers have already reaped the rewards of high definition channels.
