Effects Of Remarriage On Children

By:

When Kathryn told her five year old son Jeremy that she was going to marry Frederick, little Jeremy became very happy. Jeremy finds Frederick a helping friend who is always there to help him out. Kathryn is a divorcee. She separated from her husband when Jeremy was just 1.5 year old. That time Jeremy was very young to realize anything and thus doesnt remember much about his father.

Though there separation had some impact on Jeremys mental condition, but it didnt last for long. Jeremy and Kathryn know Frederick for last three years. Gradually Frederick and Kathryn developed a good relation between each other and thus they decided to marry. Though Jeremy is quite well acquainted with Frederick, still Kathryn has a fear in her heart whether they both could adjust or not. She talked to Jeremy also regarding her remarriage and he happily agreed with that. Jeremy feels secured while spending time with Frederick and this sense of security will help them in future in making their bond stronger.

Divorce and remarriage are quite natural in this era. If you are a divorcee and you dont have a kid to look after, think from the childs perspective of how they might feel about it also. Many a time its been noticed that children suffer from severe psychological problems when one of their parents chose a new partner to live with. This imbalance may lead them even to destructive ways. Such types of kids often get influenced by anyone. The peer pressure also becomes high for such children.

Thus it becomes very important for parents to understand the psychological status of their children before getting involved in any relation. Children generally dont want their parents love to be shared with anyone other than themselves. When they find their mothers or fathers time and love is being shared with an unknown person, an inner depression starts mounting over them. Before getting involved in any relation,

The parent should take care of the following things:-

Whether your partner have a good gelling with your child or not. It is very important for both of them to enjoy a secured future life.

If you get remarried, you need to provide ample time to your child so that the child shouldnt feel the emptiness.

Your new marriage can have positive impacts on the child also. Your partner can fill the empty place in your childs heart. It is seen that in many cases the parents can influence freely the child.

Age of the child is another factor affecting children's adjustment. Adolescents have a more difficult time adjusting than do younger children, in part because adolescence is a time of developmental change. Thus it is very important to consider your childs age before getting remarried.

Given the current state of research on children in stepfamilies, it would be premature to suggest that no differences exist between these children and children living in first-marriage families. Family relations in any family form are complex with numerous factors affecting a child's well-being. We still have much to learn about these factors related and the processes that enhance adjustment.
