The group of tendons or muscle tissues surrounding the humerus top forming a cap is called the rotator cuff. With lack of proper exercise these tendons can get inflamed and can cause pain and can limit arm and movement of the shoulder. The object of doing these exercises is to strengthen the shoulder muscles. This is basically how you can prevent tendonitis and other injuries. The first thing to do is some warm up activities for your shoulder. After that the pendulum exercise should be done. Start by stretching your arms and shoulders. Next is to do some gentle swinging motion and slow arm lifts without the aid of weights. You will have to utilize weights later on to further strengthen your rotator cuff.

Next is you need to lie down for the next exercise. You now lay prone on a bed and stretch your arm to your side and keep it at shoulder level. Bend your elbows to 90 degrees and your hand should be pointed downward. Raise your hand slowly keeping your elbow bent. Keep doing the exercise until your arm feels tired then do it with the other arm.

Another exercise is done standing up. This is an exception since other effective rotator cuff exercises are done lying down. Place your arm at the center of your front and side of your body. Raise your arm slowly up forming a 45 degree angle then lower your arm gradually. Again do repetitions until your arm gets tired before you do it with the other arm. Doing this simple exercises will surely treat rotator cuff tendonitis if it is not yet severe.

Just as true with the other muscles in the body, strengthening the rotator cuff muscles is needed to keep free form injury.
