Effective Defenses Against Mold

By:

Mold is definitely one of those hidden dangers that just about everyone seems to be afraid of. One of the main reasons for this is because it seems to strike hard and fast, and by the time you find out that you have a mold problem, you've already become very ill. Recently, some friends of mine suffered from an outbreak of mold in their home. They all got very sick at the same time and had to move to a temporary residence until the mold was completely removed. The mother of the family suffered permanent effects, and now has a heightened sensitivity to respiratory issues that she never used to deal with. Mold is just a hazard that everyone should avoid if they can.

In my research on different ways to kill mold and eliminate it from the home, at first I was disappointed by what I was finding. Most of the solutions to the problem were centered around removing mold colonies that had already taken hold in the home. In my opinion, a solution that prevents the mold from taking hold in the first place is better than removing it once it's already established. Sure there are things like mold resistant paints, mold resistant drywall, and keeping things dry and moisture free, but what if you're living in an older home or appartment that doesn't have those solutions in place already? Without a lot of major renovating, a person can't really change the drywall or the paint in their home to the mold resistant variety? One thing I found did surprise me however.

Apparently there's a technology out there these days that was developed by NASA that uses an air purifier to kill hazards in the environment. When I first started reading about it, I thought to myself, "Why in the world would NASA develop an air purification technology?" But then it dawned on me that inside of a space station, air is the most precious commodity, and keeping it clean and pure is very important. So NASA developed an air purifier system that actually goes out and tries to actively purify the environment of hazards like mold, germs, and allergens. The biggest way it accomplishes this is through the use of the simple household compound hydrogen peroxide, sending it into the environment to actively disinfect it of hazards. If you've ever sprayed hydrogen peroxide on a surface to disinfect it, or used it on a wound to cleanse it of bacteria and germs, you know that it's a very effective and safe solution for humans to be around.

Being a non-homeowner myself, I really love finding solutions like this one. When you rent an apartment, you really don't have a whole lot of options in protecting yourself against the threat of mold. Who knows if the previous tennant kept the dark, hidden spaces dry and safe against mold. And you can't exactly make major renovations to an apartment to try and secure it against a colony invasion. So a solution that goes where you go can definitely come in handy. If you find this technology fascinating the same way that I did when I first started reading about it, then definitely do some more research on it. Best of luck with your battle against mold.

An air purifier for mold is a good idea to consider for anyone worried about mold. There are so many unseen contaminents in the air we breathe -- allergens, particles, germs, etc. The best air purifier should have the ability to remove all of them from the environment.
