Eczema Causes And What You Should Avoid

By:

Those who suffer from eczema frequently wonder: what exactly causes eczema? In reality, there is no specific answer to that question. Eczema causes are still the subject of various studies by scientific and medical researchers and we haven't been able to pinpoint exactly one root cause of this disease. Just like with many other medical conditions, research is still ongoing in hopes of better understanding eczema and what causes it.

Even though one specific thing cannot be blamed for the disease, there have been some eczema causes that were studied by the scientific community and evidence found which links them to flare-ups of this condition. One main factor which can cause eczema is a genetic predisposition towards it. Exactly how the disease is passed through the genes if unknown at this point, however research indicates that if you have a family history of eczema, you are more likely to suffer from the disease yourself.

This type of eczema is called "atopic dermatitis" and is causes flare-ups when you are exposed to certain elements in the environment which cause an allergic reaction, or strong reaction of the immune system and therefore resulting in the redness, inflammation and blistering of the affected area.

There are of course, certain chemicals which can irritate the skin and cause periodic eruptions of eczema. There eczema causes what is known as "contact dermatitis", when the skin becomes inflamed due to contact with a certain substance or object. Cleaning products, soaps, certain synthetic materials and jewelry have been known to create reactions on the skin.

Of course, you should avoid coming into contact with anything that causes your skin to react in this fashion. The symptoms, while often quite problematic, will normally disappear once the source of the flare up is gone. No matter what the cause, effective treatments exist which can diminish the severity of eczema outbreaks and help your body naturally prevent future episodes of eczema.
