Economic Outlook For Salt Lake City

Economic Outlook For Salt Lake City

By:

Though the national economy might be struggling, there are some areas where things are still going alright. One of those places is northern Utah, with Salt Lake City leading the way. If you are looking for a place with many jobs and opportunities, then Salt Lake might not be a bad place to be in the next few years. So what is the economic outlook like and why are things looking up for this area?

Job creation drives economic resurgence
Though not everything is rosy in Utah, there are some things looking up. The Utah economy saw job growth between July 2009 and 2010, with 17,000 more jobs coming into existence. This was while much of the country was still struggling to curtail job loss. The driving force behind this seems to be more companies moving into areas like SLC, so there is good reason to hope that things will get better. The wide expanse of jobs in the area spans many different sectors, as well. Technology has been the driver, but other industries have seen growth, as well.

Housing market struggles to some extent
Though the positives with Salt Lake City jobs have led to some optimism going forward, not everything is perfect. The Utah housing market has taken a hit, just like the rest of the country. The single thing preventing most from calling for a full resurgence in the near future is the struggling real estate market. Still, things should get better going forward. There are some signs of life all across the state, and the 'City of Saints' has led that effort. With house prices slowly rising and people buying homes a little more often, there is reason to think that 2011 will be a good year for those in the city.

What is the overall consensus? It is hard to say for sure, but things seem to be going well in SLC. Those looking for jobs will find that this area offers a lot for them. Still, the widespread struggles of the national economy must be taken into account, so there is reason to temper the enthusiasm. Compared to the rest of the country, though, Salt Lake City jobs are being produced at a much higher rate for those in need.
