Ebay Scams - Protect Yourself

By:

Have you been victimized recently from an eBay scam? Hundreds if not thousands of people are losing their hard earned money due to con-artist that lurk on eBay. Do not get me wrong eBay is an exciting place to buy and sell goods, and also very addicting, but this article is going to teach you some effective ways to not get ripped off on eBay.

First and foremost the below tips are suggestions to help you not lose money on eBay. I did make a number of these mistakes when I first started selling stuff so I have lived and learned from my own mistakes.

Paypal Only

Never under any circumstances send someone money using Western Union, MoneyGram, T/T or some other unsecured payment method. eBay does in fact own Paypal so it is really the perferred method for doing online transaction on eBay. Also, personally I do not accept checks or money orders, just because the amount of fraud that goes on these days online. That and it just seems to be so 1990s to mail a money order or check to someone.

Also, what people will try to do is send you a payment with a money order that is over the amount for your trouble. 99.9% of the time these are just hoaxes to get you to accept a money order. They are usually counterfeit and will be notified by the bank once they discover that it is a fake money order.

Conformation On Your Items

If you are a seller always get conformation on your items. If someone files a claim on you through Paypal and you did not have conformation you will lose every time. Trust me I know this! Even if you have all your receipts from USPS, UPS, FedEx, ect. Also, in order to Paypal to dispute you have to have conformation or you will simply have no claim. This protects both buyers and sellers.

Insurance

Insurance is a good way to protect yourself because stuff does happen and packages do get lost. If you insure it and something happens then the postal service will reimburse you and you can have the added security of not having to pay the money back out of your pocket. I always use insurance when I sell big item products on eBay. Also, if you are using UPS make sure you do not click 'shipper release' because this voids your issuance. I made the mistake of clicking 'shipper release' about a year ago and had to pay someone $100 for an item that UPS lost.
