Eating Good Fats Does Not Make You Fat

By:

Due to bad press and often misconceptions about the consumption of fats and the reliance upon low fat diets regrettably Good Fats which provide the best sources of Essential Fatty Acids to our bodies are often tarred with the same brush as Bad fats and many people still think they will pile on the pounds if the even look at an avocado for instance.

Many dieticians in the media world advise us that fat contains more calories per gram than any other food group. This nutritional fact resulted in a surge of low fat/ high carbohydrate diets and a limit all fat mentality which started in the 1980s and appears to be still alive and kicking today.

It is a fact that carbohydrates contain less than half the number of calories of fat but since the nation started swapping fat for carbohydrates we have become obese and less healthy. The truth is that you satisfy your appetite and to be more accurate your food cravings if you consume fat and proteins above carbohydrates thereby consuming fewer calories.

Good Fat is not the enemy it is an essential part of any healthy diet to help reduce cravings and keep your hunger levels correctly balanced. Best sources of Essential Fatty Acids are as follows:
Avocados
Cold pressed Virgin Olive Oil also hemp and flaxseed oils
Fresh Olives
Lean white meat
Live Yogurt
Oily Fish such as Pilchards, Salmon, Tuna and Mackerel
Sunflower, Pumpkin and Sesame Seeds
White cheeses.

It is however critical that your diet is made up of the right kind of fats and not the wrong fats which can be so bad for you. Saturated fat found mainly in animal products is not the worst of fats and we would suggest only eaten in moderation however the least recommended and the one we would recommend that you eliminate from your diet as far as practicable is Hydrogenated Vegetable Fat.

Hydrogenated Vegetable Fat is achieved by heating vegetable oils and fats to incredibly high temperatures Hydrogen is then forced under pressure into the boiling fat molecules. This process results in changing the original product which originally could be classed as healthy into a most undesirable and potentially dangerous product as virtually all the naturally occurring nutrients are lost. The good fats are destroyed and the whole molecular structure changed to such a degree that these fats and oils have now become potentially harmful as they can create a build up of LDL (low-density lipoprotein) often referred to as the bad cholesterol. Indeed some research by US government experts stated that there was no recommended safe level of consumption.

To aid you in your pursuit of following a healthy diet as always be guided by your common sense avoid these harmful refined fats and concentrate of the good fats to provide you with the nutritional value of essential fatty acids. It is unfortunate that Avocado and Bacon are often marketed as a tasty salad or sandwich filling for the best solution we would advise hold the bacon and double up on the avocado.
