Easy-on Tackles Mrsa In Hospitals

A Doncaster based paint company has received test results confirming its unique infection control coating could help save lives and reduce Healthcare Associated Infection's (HAI's) like MRSA.

In times when MRSA has been in headlines with horror stories about the health of our hospitals, Urban Hygiene Ltd has received test results confirming its unique infection control coating could help save lives and reduce HAI's. Tests undertaken by The Biomedical Research Centre, SHU prove that Urban Hygiene's 'easy-on' infection control coating can effectively decrease the spread of infection and reduce the Health Services annual redecoration budget by around 50%.

The tests measured the level of bacteria survival after disinfecting. The results prove that when matt emulsion paint is wiped down, large amounts of dangerous bacteria remain behind and walls are left looking shabby and in need of repainting. When easy-on coated surfaces are cleaned 100% of bacteria is removed and the surface appearance is unaffected. This means that hospital-cleaning regimes can be extended to include potentially contaminated areas like walls, doors and ceilings that were previously considered un-cleanable.

The test results have arrived at a time when the NHS is being told once again to clean up its act. The Healthcare Commission ordered every NHS hospital in England to review infection control procedures. Mark Johnson, sales director at Urban Hygiene is delighted with the easy-on test results. "easy-on is a major breakthrough in the fight against MRSA. We believe that hospital walls are breeding grounds for bacteria, and it's a fact that the more surfaces we clean the less bacteria there will be to contribute towards the spread of infection. "By coating walls and surfaces with easy-on, bacteria can be wiped away with nothing more than a standard cleaning solution. Couple this with the fact that easy-on lasts up to 20 years regardless of the amount of times its cleaned, it is believed that easy-on may be just what the doctor ordered.
