Just like any other game or sport, pool takes time and practice to develop skills and improve. It also takes proper technique and some skills to start off with. If you want to become a better pool player, then here are some easy tips to help you improve your game.
Practice Makes Perfect
This saying is around for a reason and it definitely applies to the game of pool. If you want to improve your game, then you should be hanging around a pool table in your spare time. This may mean that you go and invest in a
pool table for your home to allow you to practice whenever you can. Practice taking all kinds of different shots from different angles. If you can't get the hand of a certain shot, just keep at it and you may be surprised that one day you sink the ball with no problem.
Have The Right Equipment
If you are using an old cue that does not fit you properly, then you need to go and buy one that is custom made for you or that is made according to the size you need. The cue is the most important piece of equipment, but many pool players don't bother investing in a good cue stick. A good cue stick that fits you well can dramatically make your game better. Along with that you may want to look at gloves and other billiards accessories that can improve your game.
The Proper Stance
Without the proper stance, your pool game will never improve. You should always be steady on your feet from the bottom of your body to the top. If you are off balance, your shot is going to be off balance. When taking a shot you should not bend straight over the pool table. This will make your upper body like your neck and shoulders very uncomfortable. Instead a good pool stance is when you stand at a 45 degree angle from the shot. The foot that is on the same side as your bridge hand (the one further up on the cue) should be slightly forward from the other foot. This gives the player the most comfortable stance that leads to good shots in the game. Also, you want to be sure you are relaxed and not stiff when you are taking our shot.
Proper Grip
A proper grip on the cue is another important aspect to improving at your game. Your grip on the stick should be loose enough that the cue seemingly glides through your fingers to strike the cue ball. On the other hand your grip needs to be tight enough to have control over the stick and not lose it during a shot. This is another thing that takes practice from a player. Not every pool player is going to have the same kind of grip. You need to find one that is comfortable for you and allows you the most control over your cue stick. Be sure that your grip is not too tense as this may ruin your grip and may make your shot jerky and not smooth.
For anybody looking to improve their game at the
pool table, they need to remember that it takes practice and time to build a better game.
