It is said that earthworm is a friend of farmer and it is very true. Earthworm helps the farmer in many ways that we will discuss in this and how earthworm helps in making topsoil. Presence of earthworm in the soil indicates that soil is rich in nutrients and organic matter. Earthworm moves around the soil and consume dead plant root, leaves decaying insects and other waste of the plants. It acts as a soil cleaner and it leave castings within the soil.

It loosens the soil and after death of earthworm it increases the fertility of the soil. Earthworm eats dead weeds, cardboard, leaves etc. that are found in the top of soil worm comes up to eat it and carrying it back into the soil as they go. This process is very important as it helps to clear the accumulation of organic waste on the soil. It is seen that higher the quality of soil higher the quality of earthworm present in it. Earthworm presence in soil indicates that quality of soil is good or we can say topsoil.

All we know the importance of water to plants. Water is life of plants and earthworm helps water to reach to the root of plants. Worms aerate the ground as they move through it and this leaves the soil like sponge which helps the soil to absorb water and water reaches the root of plants very quickly. Soil erosion is also reduced as water is taken up by the soil rather being wasted. Top soil needs good quantity of water. Growth of the plants also depends on the quality of soil. As same like human being plants also need nutrition for their growth which they get from soil. If soil has good quality of nutrient and other material then growth of plant is healthy.

About the benefits of topsoil, it is very good for the gardens and lawns because of its fertility. Topsoil retains the nutrients of the soil and provides them to plants for their growth. It useful in maintain the healthy plant life as it increase the fertility of the plants leads improve the level of vegetation on earth. Healthy vegetation also leads to reduce soil erosion because roots hold the soil tightly and prevent soil erosion from wind and rain. Topsoil also prevent land and air pollution as plants observe carbon dioxide and purify air. In conclusion topsoil is useful for plants and plants are useful to maintain the ecological balance and sustain the life on earth. I think above information proves to be useful for you.
