Earning From Graphic Design

Gazing into the abyss, a male figure fitted with a trench coat and a bowler hat carries in his hands an attach case and what seems to be a brolly. There is something about this man that strikes much interest. Using this image, an emerging industry is being showcased.

The vice president and general manager of the year old firm, with a bachelor of architecture degree says that the guy with the umbrella is a photograph his friend took of him. His partner, bachelor of environmental studies, photographer, graphic artist, president and senior designer of the company says that the print is supposed to suggest that it's possible to be dynamic in Canadian business without necessarily being in Toronto. Architecture in the late '70s had this strong belief that there is nothing wrong with the way people extensively market certain things upon their liking.

Starting with a purpose to make pretty things available for human eyes, nowadays, there are more uses for art like say in business perhaps and the like. Art has reached a new level. It is in Winnipeg in Canada where one company is trying to establish itself as one of the primary competitors in Canadian commerce and they are using graphic design to achieve this.

Here, the two businessmen actually started out with photography. What they had were pictures but they now have lithographs, graphic forms, silk screens, metal etchings, and fiber work. In a darkroom in a local architectural firm where they met, these two partners used to work there. They saw success in each other.

All their company needed was a formalizing contract because they were already selling a lot of things. In Vancouver, there was a graphics exhibition which they needed to attend for the company. To print out the brochure, they will be needing at least three thousand dollars and another two thousand in backup funds and this five thousand total will be provided by one of the partners.

You can compare their brochures to those from the rest of the Winnipeg commercial industry and you will see that theirs have more art, graphic, and print in them. In their spare time, they work on other things like architectural photography and models, promotional printing, posters, logos, T shirt design, coasters, menus, and matchbook covers and they call this part of their job potatoes. Most of the time, they work for government buildings, trains, head and branch offices of corporations, lobbies and rooms of hotel chains, and commercial aircrafts creating custom art for them.

Often the two join with the company, outfitting a certain company's offices with huge murals or silk screen serigraphs as well, doing its printed promotional material. When they make their custom fine art for their clients, they combine it with graphic design and this becomes their edge. Not only is the business of custom corporate art difficult but you need to attend to a number of things and concerns at once. Their work calls for numerous hours day in and day out. Part of the customers that they have now are part of a huge insurance company, a railroad, hotels, two major Canadian banks, various federal and provincial buildings, and airline companies.
