Featuring a stellar line-up of special guests, The Ealing Jazz Festival is one of the foremost Jazz festivals in London. With each years resounding success, the celebrated festival has garnered wide appreciation among the locals, and has transcended into international prominence. Drawing in a large number of tourists every year, the Ealing Jazz Festival has undoubtedly become a must-visit festival with its myriad of live acts.
Tracing back to its history, the first ever Ealing Jazz Festival took place in 1985. Originally a low-key event, it attracted only a small number of locals. Although it began from humble beginnings, today it is one of the largest jazz festivals in Europe. The previous festivals have regularly attracted acclaimed jazz artists, including Claire Davies, Adrian Macintosh Quintet, Ray Gelato and Xantone Blacq.
The 2011 edition was perhaps its biggest festival, featuring a string of popular artistes, much-loved by the fans. In addition to the traditional line-up of artistes, the Ealing Festival also featured funk fusion, funky latin flavors, vocal gymnastics and soulful grooves.
A five-day summer favourite, the festival began with an opening performance by The Ronnie Scott Legacy Band followed by a moving performance by Vasilis Xenopoulous, paying homage to the jazz favourites, Hank Mobley and Wes Montgomery.
A highlight was the thrilling performance by Paul Carmicheals Flight, who played a funky set of Latin jazz instrumentals. Another highlight was the emotional act by Liz Fletcher, who swayed the crowd with her soulful grooves. Few of the other performances were Justin Swadlings Modus featuring Lucy Morris, Verona Chards Women in Jazz Oracle, Jam Session with George Arnold and John Critchinson and the Ronnie Scott Legacy Quintet, Taking place at Walpole Park, other artistes that performed include Kate Winter with the Richard Niles Septet, Frank Griffith Nonet, Winston Morson's Off the Cuff, Jack Honeyborne Band, Dick Esmond's Sound of 17 Big Band, Nick Malcolm Ban, Rob Terry Trio, Rowland Sutherland Sextet and Dick Cook and the Jambalaya Parade Band.
Contributing to another fantastic show was the Bar Tent Duo, a traditional performance at The ealing Jazz Festival, which featured Ted Beament, Peter Morgan, Alan Berry and John Rees-Jones to mention a few.
