Each Room Has A Purpose

What makes a house a home? Is it the brick, stucco or siding? Or the lovely plants and trees, or the way you feel when you step inside and let out a big sigh of relief cause you are finally back to your place of solace? I have found that you can make your house your haven by just adding the right rugs, art, fixtures, furniture and memories. The first step is finding a house plan that fits your unique style. I have found a great resource of house plans at www.houseplancentral.com. You can take a house and fill it with the lovely things of good ole times that will give you that warm appreciative feeling when you step into your house. Use ideas like taking tons of your dads old records and putting them on display in one of the kids rooms to give it that vintage look, yet also keeping your dads love for good music alive by surrounding your kid with your childhood memories and your dads memoirs. Maybe you could also take your moms love for antiques and add a few the ones she passed down to you to your contemporary house and tie them together with some lovely pieces of art. You can decide now, before you start decorating your house to blend the things from your past with your new decorating ideas and really give your house that unique homey feeling. I think there are so many new ways to use your past as a gateway to making your future home different than anybody elses. You can take this a little far and maybe a bit tacky so it is important to make sure that your old memories tie in with your contemporary existence. I have seen how you can take records and make a cool coffee table or some awesome retro wall art, or maybe that old worn out couch you can take and have it recovered with a fabric that matches with your new furniture. What was your favorite thing about your parents house when you were younger? Take these sweet memories and make them part of your home. You can use your imagination and really have fun with trying to take the past and make additions to your home and hopefully make your great memories come alive for your children. How neat is it that the things you grew up with and you can make your home vintage yet still classy and unique with just a few tidbits of your past.
