Dynamics Gp Partner Newsflash Navigating Great Plains Technologies: Econnect, Dex, Im

Microsoft Dynamics GP was also formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise. This mid-size business ERP and MRP application has selection of integration, customization and modification tools and if you are software programmer or Dynamics GP project manager in your organization, you need to be oriented in the spectrum of tools as well as in decision making on proper tool selection. We would like to recommend you this small publication for initial orientation:

1.Dynamics GP Dexterity. This tool was introduced as the shell in which Great Plains Dynamics was coded in earlier 1990th. Dexterity is one of the GP architecture components and if you need your GP add-on to be integrated into Dynamics GP security realm and model, plus look the same (icons, menus, form design) you may think on picking Dexterity as your customization engine. Dexterity was initially planned as the shell to provide DB and computer graphics realization independence, this was one of the reasons for Dex to be coded in C programming language. Since the time of Microsoft acquisition of Great Plains Software (earlier XXI century), Dexterity was in transition to adopt Microsoft technologies: MS SQL Server Stored Procedures, COM objects, .Net

2.eConnect. If you are ecommerce web developer, it is unlikely that you would like the idea to program in Microsoft Dexterity sanscript programming language (besides the necessity of learning curve, Dex historically was created in the days, when ecommerce keyword didnt exist). Traditionally ecommerce software developers are comfortable calling such instruments as SQL Server Stored procedures (often via XML wrapper to resolve Linux and Java world barriers). eConnect on its end technology level is the set of encrypted (so you cannot review and change them) SQL stored procedures. eConnect also has to sort of replicate Dexterity business logic on the level of master records creation and modification (customer, vendor, employee, GL account) and creation and placing work transactions to the batch (SOP Invoice, Purchase Order, GL transaction)

3.Integrations. If your objectives are GP integrations or EDI with custom business logic (where you have to mark integrated records in your legacy or EDI DB: Oracle, DB2, Sybase), please consider GP Integration Manager (if you like to stay on end user level) or eConnect (when you are comfortable to be GP C# or VB.Net programmer or project manager). IM allows you to deploy VBA scripting and such tools as ADO connections to Dynamics GP company or system Database. Plus, currently (Dynamics GP version 10.0 and partially 9.0) Integration Manager has new set of connectors, based on eConnect technology
