Dynamics Gp On Pervasive Sql Server And Ddf Generator

The technique of ODBC connection to old versions of Great Plains Dynamics based in Pervasive SQL Server 2000 or Btrieve is reasonably straightforward. Modern day programmers are typically comfortable to deal with ODBC or native driver connection to Microsoft SQL Server and the number of consultants who are ready to connect you to B-Trieve database is limited. Lets review the technology and the steps:

1.Great Plains versions on Btrieve/Pervasive SQL 2000. Back in earlier 1990th Great Plains Dynamics was introduced as one of the pioneering graphical accounting applications. Those days competition on the graphical computers had such names as Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows. Apple PowerPC server had Faircom Ctree database platform while Microsoft Windows server had either Ctree or B-trieve. In our experience with Faircom DB on Mac server is not very encouraging as we saw poor performance. In executive demonstrations we ended up with scenario where Dynamics clients are installed on Mac computers and the server is Windows with Btrieve database platform. In late 1990th and earlier 2000th Great Plains Dynamics was available on three DB platforms: Btrieve/Pervasive, Microsoft SQL Server and Ctree. And the versions were 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0 and 4.0. Apparently when Microsoft acquired GP Software the direction was chosen to abandon non-SQL Server platforms

2.How do you do data repair with GP release on Pervasive SQL? It is easy enough to delete or update rows in SQL Server Query Analyzer or Management Studio. In the case of Btrieve our tool of choice is Microsoft Access with linked ODBC tables. ODBC connection required so-called DDF files generation. The best way is to look at DDF manual which is installed automatically and placed in Documentation folder. If you like shortcuts, then here they are. In your Dynamics workstation folder drag GenDDF.set file and drop it n Dynamics.exe. Please note that you can create these files for all Dexterity compliant products listed in your Dynamics.set file including such popular as Intellisol Project Accounting and Advanced Purchase Order Processing, Mekorma and others

3.Where DDF files should be placed? They should go to company folder on your server

4.Microsoft Access ODBC connection. The trick here is to find Linked Tables option and then ODBC. Here you are selecting company folder on the server and we recommend you to select all tables and add. Some of the files do not exist (as they are only created when you have at least one record to save) so ignore multiple error messages. At this point you should be positioned to edit Btrieve tables in MS Access interface

5.Popular data fixing scenarios. One of the most popular is unlocking the batch crashed in posting process. The table is SY00500 and you need to change batch status from positive number to zero. There are cases when you have to change customer information in large number of SOP Invoices and here the table is SOP30200
