Dynamics Gp Econnect And Automated Batch Posting

Dynamics Gp Econnect And Automated Batch Posting

By:

Former Great Plains is now part of Microsoft Dynamics ERP family. This application is based on batch processing and posting principle. Documents entered via user interface are typically saved in the batch for further review, optional approval and posting. At this stage they are saved at so-called work tables. These tables have digital prefix 1 in the table name. For example SOP10100 is Sales Order Processing Document Header. When you post this document upon the creation without saving or in the batch the document header will go into so-called historical table SOP30200. In the case of Sales Order Processing module invoices, quotations, orders, returns, fulfillment orders and backorders have only two statuses: either work or historical. In other modules such as Accounts Receivable or Payable you have three statuses: work, open and historical. Lets review how eConnect and Integration Manager do the job and their restrictions:

1.Whatever is possible in user interface in documents creation, deletion and update is possible in eConnect and IM. In other words you can only work with the documents in work status. If you are sending eCommerce shopping cart to GP Sales Order Processing invoice with customer credit card prepayment all you can do in eConnect is create Invoice, attach the items and payment and place it into work tables: SOP10100, SOP10200 and several others. Batch is required in this scenario. Sometimes developers are asking the question like this: we would like to do all the work of creating the Invoice, allocating items and post it all the way through General Ledger, is it possible? The answer is no in standard eConnect and Integration Manager. Then how do we accomplish our goal? Please see some ideas in the following paragraph

2.Microsoft Dexterity Source Code Programming. OK, eConnect did its job by creating invoice and placing it into the batch for approval and posting. Now the posting procedure itself should be initiated in Great Plains Dexterity custom module. In order to program such a module you need to review so-called GP Source Code or in other words Dynamics.dic dictionary where Dexterity scripts are present (Dynamics.dic on the user workstation has all the scripts stripped out). We recommend you to take a look at the button Post in Master Posting form or in the Batch Windows of the origin you need to automate. In these forms you as Dexterity developer should be able to find the steps in calling Dexterity procedures with their parameter to initiate batch posting process. If you would like to do the same in SQL Server Stored Procedures we would like to give you some points to consider abandoning such an idea. First of all as you understand eConnect doesnt have stored procedures to do the job. Second posting logic in Great Plains is complex and it probably has substantial percentage of Dexterity Sanscript code lines in Dynamics.dic meta dictionary. Dynamics GP is designed to fit mid-market companies and replicating posting logic in SQL scripts would be a titanic project

3.Third Party add-ons. The good news is the fact that there are several options in the form of purchasing third party custom product which extend GP. Probably one of the leaders in Alba Spectrum Posting Server where you can post the batch in virtually all the modules of Microsoft Dynamics GP. Another solution is coming from the reseller in South Africa

4.Separate allocation or order fulfillment. In B2B and B2C eCommerce scenarios you may do the allocation with some delay on the warehouse floor via barcode scanning. If this is the procedure then we do not recommend you to post automatically upon order placement. Instead you should consider posting triggering at the point where you have order fulfilled completed in your warehouse when you know such important parameters as serial or lot number, bit from where the real item was taken, etc. Here you have to do custom programming of your Warehouse Management System often abbreviated as WMS
