Dynamics Gp Ap Check Batch Recovery And Reposting Consulting Notes

By:

In Payables Management module computer check processing typically takes time or at least to say one minute or more. Traditionally Great Plains deploys two tiers architecture with the option to send batch posting to secured and backed by UPS processing server. If you are posting batches directly from your user computer and something happens with power and computer simply crushes then chances are high that you need to do data repair on the SQL or Pervasive/Btrieve levels. Lets review why these things happen and how to get issue resolved:

1.Dexterity architecture model. This is sort of abstraction from DB platform and operating system. Dexterity is the shell programmed in C++. The abstraction from such platforms as Microsoft SQL Server or Pervasive SQL 2000 has its cost. If you are SQL DBA you may reasonably argue: Wait a minute, why we dont just use SQL transaction commit and rollback mechanisms? Well, Dexterity has its own atomic SQL Stored Procedures to do tiny things such as retrieving or saving just one record in the table. Some of its logic was reprogrammed in SQL Stored Procedures respecting transactions but it is too early to declare that we have full featured application server. Lets now review popular check processing crushing scenarios

2.Checks were printed and when Post Payable Checks screen was opened up then we got power outage and computer crushed. What do we have to do now? The best answer is probably open case with Microsoft Business Solutions technical support. Here the assumption is that you are on currently supported versions which currently are 2010 and 10.0 as we are writing this document in February of 2012. If you feel that you are Great Plains consulting folk and you are comfortable with SQL Server update statements or in case of Btrieve with connection to its database via something like Microsoft Access then lets move on to present the fix. We cannot guarantee all that we know is that it did work couple of times

3.SY00500 table or posting definition master. This table is residing in company database or in the case of Pervasive SQL 2000 it is in the company folder in the subfolder named Company. In this table please find the row where your batch is described. Now the surgery itself. Verify that Checks Printed (CHKSPRTD) field is set to 1 (chances are high that it is set to zero). Now Marked to Post (MKDTOPST) field should read zero. And the most important field is Batch Status (BCHSTTUS) should be set to 110. Now open again Post Payable Checks form, make backup of your company database, select the batch where Process should be Post Checks and click on Process button on the bottom of the form

4.Some comments on older versions such as 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5 and 5.0 available on Btrieve, Ctree and Pervasive SQL 2000 DB platforms. In Pervasive Control Center you can create database assuming that you have already created DDF files (dictionary definition files). There is manual on ODBC connection via DDF files on the installation CD or in your documentation folder. These three files (file.ddf, field.ddf and index.ddf) should be copied into company folder (usually it resides under your Dynamics folder on the server). Next step is to create database for your company in Pervasive Control center. And then you can connect via ODBC editing compliant tool and our recommendation is Microsoft Access and Linked tables there
