Dvi Extender: Extend Dvi Signals Over Long Distances

A DVI Extender is a simple and an effective mode of transmitting digital video signals over long distances via Cat5 / Cat6 UTP cable and to even greater distance via fiber optical cable. It basically consists of a local transmitter unit which is placed right next to the DVI source and a remote receiver unit which is located with the remote LCD monitor. While the former is available with 2, 4 or 8 ports and the latter allows you to connect to each of the remote DVI monitors. The extender can extend DVI video signals up to 1000m using the UTP Cat5 cable.
Various models of this extender are available with fiber optic cables in varying lengths. However within the fiber optic models, there are two variants such as the single link DVI Fiber Optic Extender and DVI Dual Link Fiber Optic Extender. Both these variants are a mode of transmitting high resolution digital video over long distances via fiber optic cable and the main difference lies in the resolutions supported by both these devices. While the former supports resolutions of 1080p/1900 x 1200 and the latter supports up to 2560 x 1600 often seen and required in medical imaging environments.
The demand for this device is more than the earlier versions of the DVI Extenders since the fiber optic technology protects data transmission from EMI and RFI and also eliminates problems created by lightning and power surges. The prime features of this DVI Extender is elimination of bulky multiple fiber cables, requirement of no additional software or device drivers, allows plugging and unplugging of different displays without initialization of software and compliance with DVI, which is the emerging standard for video transmission to liquid-crystal, gas-plasma and light-emitting-diode displays, as well as digital projectors.
On the other hand, the digital video signal transmitter via Cat5 is a very inexpensive mode of transmission and it also eliminates the need to run bulky cables. It offers crisp and clear images with high resolution. Lightweight in nature, the CAT5 DVI Extender is generally used in call centers, airports, restaurants, hospitals, digital signage solutions, military, and commercial environments.
