The business world is growing bigger and bigger and there so many new occupations opening up every single year as new positions are required and the whirl of newly invented positions can get dizzying. The position of a business intelligence analyst is one of them. Whats a business intelligence analyst? What exactly is business intelligence? To understand what they do you have to understand how a typical business works.

A big business has a lot of information weaving in and out. Information like how well the company is doing financially, what product is making it sink in and out in the market, how their stocks are doing and how the structure of their business strategy is affecting their profits. All of these affect how well a company is doing and if they need to change their tactics.

A business intelligence analyst looks at all of these scattered information and tries to do the math to make these into a cohesive story that will make sense when viewed by others. This is the hardest part of his job since has to study piles of unrelated data and try to make something out of it all. Afterwards he needs to come up with a strong plan to work on the pros and cons. Thats why hes called an analyst after all. The information is then compiled into reports for further analysis and in some cases, to take immediate action.

There are a lot of job opportunities for a BI analyst but the trick is that a company only needs a few of them and the only angle you can look forward to in getting the job is by making sure you have a few years of experience while working in a smaller company and by being pretty damn good. Its a high position that requires a lot of from the worker and it can be a really pressuring job since the weight of the entire companies future can rest in your decisions. You advise to the board of directors can make or break a company since they will listen to how you constructed your decisions based on their own data. Therefore, this position can be very important depending on the company. People will look to the worker in this position for guidance or reassurance about current market and business standings. This requirement is difficult and can be too demanding for some personalities.
