A historic symbol of Chinas rich culture and heritage, the Dule Temple is one of the most famous worship sites to visit in Tianjin. Its classic wooden structure and unique historical background has attracted crowds of locals and tourists to visit the temple on a daily basis. Also known as the Solitary Joy Temple, the Dule Temple is situated within Tianjins Ji region. Its construction dates back to the period of the Tang Dynasty which was between the years of 618 - 907. It was later rebuilt and renovated in 984 by the Liao Dynasty. Today, the temple stands as one of the three temples that continue to exist from the Liao Dynasty. Many original structures can still be seen at the temple.
Upon visiting the Dule Temple, there are several interesting sights to see and pavilions to explore. The Goddess of Mercy Hall and the temples main gate are original structures from the Liao Dynasty. In the Kwan Yin pavilion, there is a majestic statue of Kwan Yin set against the vibrant background of intricately painted murals. Other important places to visit within the temple include the Pavilion of Wei Tuo, who is believed to be a guardian of the Buddhist Dharma and the rooms of the reputed Xanadu and Baoen Yuan.
The architectural pattern within the Dule Temple, especially in the Kwan Yin Pavilion, is a marvellous sight to behold. It displays the tasteful and intricate designs of ancient Chinese architecture. The temple is also famed for being an ancient building that has withstood several natural disasters. It has been through approximately 28 earthquakes, including a few vastly destructive ones, but has remained untouched and unharmed.
