Have you ever though that one of the prime reasons for bad breath is dry mouth? There is a deep relation between dry mouth and bad breath. Dryness of the mouth is caused by lack of saliva. The presence of saliva reduces the tainted smell coming from the mouth. You should know that dry mouth is known as xerostomia (the scientific name for dry mouth).

One of the most disturbing and irritating problems that has been plaguing both men and women all across the world is the symptom of halitosis. People suffer from various depressions, psychological disorders and other behavior oriented problems because they tend to become a loner or suffer from an inferiority complex. Family and friends walk away or even avoid your company because of foul smell that is the characteristic trademark of your personality.

The presence of bacteria overwhelms in a xerostomia. The reduction of saliva and growth of bacteria goes hand in hand. The foul smell is felt at long distance as well. This happens especially if you avoid imbibing water or eating food for long hours. Especially when you are dieting, you tend to refrain from eating for long hours and this result in halitosis. As stated dry mouth and bad breath are closely linked with each other.

Saliva is known for its cleansing properties and the lack of saliva is known to catalyze the growth of bacteria and cellular debris. The accumulation of the bacteria in the oral cavity results in omission of bad breath. People that are very old suffer from dry mouth and bad breath. Lack of fluids makes the mouth dry and this should be avoided. You should drink lots of water so that all the toxins are flushed out of the body. This action will reduce the mouth from drying as well.

You should avoid consuming too much coffee, as it is responsible for causing dryness. If you imbibe anti-depressive or blood pressure pills then this can also result in dryness of the mouth that may pave the way for foul smell. You should chew sugarless gums or candies as this may help in the production of saliva and this will prevent the mouth from getting dry.

Dry mouth and bad breath are connected with each other as the former is the cause and the latter is the effect of the symptom. The problem of foul smell can be easily solved.
