Although most of us know that it is wrong, some people still insist on imbibing alcohol and then going on to drive somewhere instead of getting a taxi which would be quite acceptable. Indeed, even though we are inundated by scenes or carnage almost on a daily basis, those who drink still think that it is ok to take the risk. Of course, this is not so but for those who are stopped for tests there are some guidelines of what they can expect. These experts in the field will look at the case from all different angles. They will not only check to see if the police have treated the accused in the right fashion, they will also check the evidence to make sure that all this was taken properly. Indeed, if it was not, the expert could just get the case dismissed very early on.

However, these days, the police are very careful about what they do and how they do it. Shaky evidence is often overturned or not allowed in the court and they really do not want to be seen as being vindictive or wasting the time of the court at all.

For the accused, life can become very difficult indeed if he is found to be guilty. Although the court will not come down too hard on those who have not caused any damage, they do take a dim view of the act of drinking and driving. If the accused appears in court more than once, then he could be seen to be a difficult person and be punished as such.

This could take the form of taking the license to drive away completely, or even some jail time if the court so wishes. In the case of a lost license, this could mean the loss of a career too since most people rely upon their cars to get them around. Even employers look unkindly on those who have been caught out and this really does no good for the career structure at all.

Some people do turn out to be the unfortunate victims of a practical joke on some occasions, or they may have imbibed alcohol without really knowing it. Fruit punches are very sweet and in most instances one would be hard pressed to know if it has alcohol or not. On the other hand, some medicines, like cough syrup, has an alcohol content that we are not aware of and it is this that brings on the sleepy feeling that we are warned about. However, in the eyes of the law, ignorance is no defense and this is what the court will look at. If the accused can bring evidence to court, the court just may believe him if he has had no prior convictions or arrests for the same thing. Although this is very rare, it does happen so tell the court everything there is to know to get some sympathy.
