Drumming With The Rogers Drums

Drumming With The Rogers Drums

By:

When musicians and drummers talk about drums, they are very technical about it. They analyze each drum to the point where the listener who knows nothing about drums just gets confused about the whole topic. But there is one drum that drummers and musicians talk about that brings them to hushed tones. The awe is on one set of drums, never to be seen again in the present day: the Rogers Drums.

It was a man named Joseph H. Rogers who made banjos for a living that started the legendary drums. The expertise in dealing with calfskin heads for banjos when it was at its peak of popularity established the name synonymous with quality. The secret to his technique he kept to himself and his craftsmen, but all the instrument went through him first before they were released.

The banjos' popularity had to end sometime, but this did not put a deterrent on Rogers whose visions of musical instruments was well established. From banjos, he made drums that captured the imagination of legendary drummers. Not because of the aesthetics, but because the sounds were perfection.

The success of the newer Rogers drums grew to such an extent that it outperformed and outsold other competitors. This was a set that delighted the musicians no end and for a while, the pinnacle of success and fame was unblemished.

The legendary drums got reborn. The fame grew as well as the drums. More and more musicians demanded that only drums by Rogers were to make their music complete. They were right, the drums were fantastic. It was unfortunate that when the two died and the company transferred hand to CBS, mass production of drums became the policy. First to go were the craftsmen, what followed after is a debacle in music history. Forgetting that drums are about music, the newer and more modern drums surfaced and killed the quality of what was once synonymous with Rogers. What's left now is just legend in the anal so musical history.
