Drum Liners In Spill Protection

By:

In any occupation today, the possibility of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals cannot be ignored. Using drum liners is a step that would afford additional security against leaks and spills.
To sustain the physical well-being of employees in the workplace, adhering to strict safety measures needs to be a priority. There are many chemicals in the products and resulting wastes which are made and/or used in industrial facilities. And, due to their chemical properties, these can prove to be quite dangerous to peoples health, as well as the immediate surroundings. If these somehow get into the environment, the damage that they can cause may last for a long period of time. Providing containers with drum liners can greatly minimize these harmful effects that chemicals can cause.

Two of the most common of these substances are petroleum and gasoline. All forms of petroleum can cause traffic hazards if they spill on the road, making the surface slippery. Petroleum is made up of toxic chemicals that, if not adequately contained, can cause serious health threats if they get into the ground water, or the water supply of a particular community. Petroleum can adversely affect aquatic life if it gets into surface water via a storm sewer. Gasoline, on the other hand, has properties that pose severe fire hazards, especially in areas near buildings, or in sewers. If gasoline gets into a sanitary sewer, it can present explosion threats and seriously hamper the treatment plants capability to treat sewage.

Traces left by these chemicals can remain within the area in some form for a long period of time; possibly even decades. These materials can get into the cycles of natural systems in land, water, and air. They are often carried through the air by various agents across geographical borders, after which they are introduced into the soil and in water bodies. These substances then settle into sediments, and are afterwards consumed by and stored in the bodily systems of living organisms.

Most of the existing guidelines set up for the containment of chemicals prioritize the management of large amounts of hazardous liquids or waste. However, chemical substances which are stored on shelves would also require proper containment. Keeping smaller containers in open trays, small wash basins or bins on shelves that are easily accessible can be helpful. Additional trays or pans may likewise be placed upon or beneath shelves or storage equipment. These should then be ready for use in order to catch materials and substances that may be leaking and dripping.

The pursuit of maintaining safety, productivity and cleanliness in the workplace should remain a top priority for establishments.
