Drum Lessons For The Beginners

By:

Drum is considered as one of the more interesting musical instruments to master. If you are considering learning drumming, here are some tips given below for you.

First step, you must know how to hold the sticks: sticks are the most important element of the drums therefore it is very important to hold them correctly. There are two methods of holding them correctly. According to the first method, you should hold them in your fist and should leave at least an inch at the bottom of the stick.

After that, you can point your thumbs facing down the end of the stick. This is the most popular method of holding the sticks. Besides this, you can hold your drum sticks as if you are holding your pen or pencil. This method is most popular among jazz players.

When you hold the drums sticks properly, practice by drumming the eight notes; 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &. You can also practice with the hands only. The more you practice, you begin to grow familiar with the rhythm of the beats and it becomes second nature for you.

If you are considering purchasing a new drum, we recommend starting by practicing on a second hand drum. It is cheaper and provides the same value as a first hand drum. Generally a three piece set is considered appropriate if you are a beginner.

It is much easier to learn with an instructor at your initial stages as he can build your foundation which is essential. It is also much easier as he can point out the mistakes that you are doing, preventing you from acquiring a negative habit for drumming.

Learn and practice properly as you are mastering a new skill, while practicing you should be serious and must choose a quiet place to practice. Also focus on feeling the rhythm during the practice and set aside at least thirty minutes a day.

During the initial stages, practice with slow beats. To help you, set your metronome at a very slow pace. Follow the beats of the metronome and keep up the rhythm during the practice.

The more you practice, the easier it becomes. Also make it a habit to count out loud while playing. It helps as your drumming has to follow the number of beats and once the counting becomes effortless, it becomes ingrained in you naturally.

It can be challenging to coordinate beating the drums and hitting the high hat with your left foot. It may seem to be difficult in the beginning, but with practice, it becomes much easier. As time passes, you will progress to more complicated and faster musical notes.

It may seem impossible in the beginning, but as your skills advance, it will be easily mastered over time. Practice often and believe that you can achieve a great level and overtime, you will achieve your targeted goal.
