Drop The Media Drama..... by David Squire
One of the worst avenues for us is to continually watch and listen to the media, who thrive on broadcasting and talking about Drama. Because they are convinced that the only way they can survive is by looking for the worst in every situation.
When things improve why do we not hear about them? Why does the bad just fad away without a follow up when situations are better? Because when situations improve its no longer news. The Media needs to blow everything out of proportion to scare us into "tunning in".
We must overcome these tendency to focus on all the negative reporting that is everywhere. Its stressful and unhealthy and will hold us in a depressed state. I'm not saying you should shut yourself off to the world, just limit your intake of negative media.
I for one can't stand to watch or listen to the media everyday, it does not seam to change all they do is broadcast fear. They come up with headlines to draw us in and repeat the words as much as possible.
Some of the media's favorite phrases and headlines are: "worst recession since, the last one, most costly since, the last time, worst fire since the last one, worst flood or storm since the last one, all of these are media phrases to draw us in.
They send teams of reporters out just to find the worst terrible information they can broadcast. Their moto seams to be the worst the better, drama sales.
For our own well being we need to limit our exposure to this negative energy. Yes the economy is bad... but we have over come this many times over. To help put our economy in perspective with-out all the hyp just look at years past and remember that each time we had a economic contraction was a period of great economic expansion.
Looking back you will be surprised to know how many economic contractions we have had. I have outlined the dates and months it took to recover:
Aug. 1929-43 months, May 1937-13 months, Feb 1945-8 months, Nov. 1948-11 months, July. 1953-10 months, Aug. 1957-8 months, April 1960-10 months, Dec. 1969-11 months, Nov. 1973-16 months, July 1981-16 months, July 1990-8 months, March 2001-8 months, and now 14 months.
All of the above are examples of our economic contractions that have been overcome with prosperity. We have always survived and thrived and we will continue to grow.
I guess reporting on achievements or how we over came other economic problems just is not media worthy.
The point is our economy will recover. We just shouldn't remind our selves every day, hour, or minute by being wrapped up in what the media is continually broadcasting.
We need to start believing in ourselves and have a knowing that everything is going to be better by surrounding ourselves in happy thoughts and good feelings. Surrounding ourselves with family and friends that are positive will have a huge impact on your happiness.
