Drop Shipping: 10 Tips To Figure Out What To Drop Ship

By:

Drop Shipping is one of the best ways you can get your feet wet, without having to spend an arm and leg on inventory you may or may not be able to sell. The drawback to having less risk is having less control, but for many people who are looking to start an internet business, the advantages far outweigh the drawbacks.

The actual process is a little bit confusing however...

Do you go about finding a niche first, or do you go about finding a drop shipper first? There are many ways you can go about this question.

1. Take a look around at the different drop shippers, to see what they have to offer and what you yourself find interesting. Many people make the mistake of telling you that you don't need any particular interest or knowledge in what you are trying to sell.

While this is true, it may not be the best way to go about it, unless you want to spend a bundle on outsourcing the whole shebang. You see, you still need to promote both the store and the product, and this is much easier to do if you have an interest in the product, or at the very least have working knowledge of it.

2. Take a look at google keywords and see what most people are looking for. This is one of the better ways in deciding what to sell. The drawback to this approach is that sometimes people search for information, but not necessarily to buy the product. If you are going to go this route, you will need a commercial intent tool.

3. Go to eBay auctions and see what's hot, and what it's selling for. Just remember that products typically sell for less on eBay, and you might not be able to be competitive.

4. If you are already in the business, poll your existing client base. They will tell you what they want to see.

5. What do you like to do? Make a list and sell supplies for your favorite activities. This is a good idea, because people will spend on leisure even when money is scarce. And as long as service is good, they will keep coming back.

6. Find a company who sells lists of drop shippers and ask them. Some places sell tools to help you decide what to sell online.

7. What are you comfortable selling? You need to pick something you feel good about, and wouldn't mind talking to the supplier, or customers about. It's always good to be able to sell something you can recommend based on personal experience, but be sure to use google's keyword tool to check popularity.

8. Get yourself a few popular magazines and take a look at the classifieds. This is basically a print version of the google keyword tool.

9. Look for another successful business and create a sub-niche. Take a look at what they sell, and just focus on one particularly popular product.

10. All of the above!

Not a single one of the above methods will work on its own, and certainly won't work if there are no drop shippers for the product! This isn't an easy process, but it can be very rewarding!
