Driving Yips

Driving Yips

Drive for show. Let the big dog eat. Grip it and rip it. Chicks dig the long ball.

Theyre all true, and some of the best and most popular golfers in the game have proven that the driver is the hottest club in the bag.

Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus were some of the longest hitters of their time, and John Daly and Michelle Wie were some of the most popular and well loved and it was all because of the longest club in their bags.

When they were at the top of their game, these golfers had supreme control of their drivers, and could dominate a course with distance. But, three of the golfers fell victim to one variation of the yips the driving yips and could not find the fairway.

Michelle Wie lost her game after early hype, Tiger Woods after some personal problems and John Daly after two majors and some poor decisions. Trauma in all of their lives brought them to a point where they could no longer perform the kind of golf swing that used to perfect.

This was brought about by golfing yips, or driving yips, and is characterized by a nervous affliction that causes jerks, stutters, twitches or mental blocks. These can stop you from even moving the club and making the normal fine motor skill movements that it takes, it can cause your body to yell FREEZE in the middle of your swing, or it can cause you to forget how to hit the ball as youve always known.

These types of golf driving yips can not only plague professionals, but can be a detriment to the high handicapper, or the resort golfer out with his buddies during a club tournament or championship.

You, however, can have access to the same information and the same methods as the professionals, and remove your yips just as easily as they can.

Many will tell you to change your game to alter your mechanics or fundamentals to get rid of the golf driving yips, but this is counterintuitive. It is like trying to remove a leak from your sink just using a mop. This mop can be a change in your swing, such as a belly putter or claw grip. It is something to change the situation, not stop it. Discard the bucket and turn the water off first. You can do this by turning the golf driving yips off, not by altering your approach to the game.

This problem can add as much as five strokes to any golfers round, and the golf driving yips can kill not only your handicap, but your love for the game. If you have a case of the yips, then you have a nervous disorder that is causing you to get a case of the jerks or shakes on the course. These jerks, shakes or twitches can be dehabilitating anywhere on the course, but especially on the tee box.

When standing between the tee markers, with nothing but fairway in front of you, the golf driving yips can force you to lose your focus and force your body to shut down, but this does not have to be a reality for you any longer.
