Driving Under The Influence May Cause Big Problems

By:

Driving under the influence is the act of driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated. This activity is a criminal offence and is punishable by law in all US States and in most countries. This is clearly because intoxicated drivers pose a big risk to the life and property of other people and the state itself. Also, by driving in such condition, they are at risk themselves.

Initially in the US, implementation of sentencing to defendants was lenient. Often, defendants would be sentenced to a particular duration in jail, for instance seven years, but since they are released early, we can say something like six years. However, many US states have now enacted Truth-in-sentencing laws that ensure that a defendant completes his full term before bail-out.

In most countries, the simplest measure for determining whether a person, who made an accident, was intoxicated while driving is known as a Blood Alcohol Test (BAC). This determines the percentage of alcohol in a persons blood by weight and does not depend on the units of measuring weight. This makes this scientific technique very convenient to use. Then, decisions are made depending on whether the determined alcohol level is more or less than the threshold amount. If the amount of alcohol measured exceeds the threshold level, then, the defendant is sentenced. Since 2004, the defined threshold limit has been 0.08%. Any defendant with blood alcohol content equal or greater than this is charged with the offence of driving while intoxicated.

The safest strategy is to reduce or completely quit drinking for a healthier as well as a safer life. Drinking has numerous wicked consequences. When an adult in a house starts drinking, youngsters, also drivers of automobiles, take the lead and drink. So, this creates a growing cycle whereby addictions keep increasing and the menace keeps spreading. This is akin to the spread of jungle fire from a single match stick.
