Driving In And Around Carlisle

By:

Carlisle is an old fortress town, dominated by its cathedral, located in Cumbria, close to the Scottish border.
The best way to get around Carlisle is by car as it is quite a vast area. Almost every visitor to Carlisle will visit Carlisle Castle, which dates back to 1093.

An English Heritage Site, which was originally a Roman fort, which formed part of the system of defences known as Hadrian's Wall. Over the ages Carlisle Castle has been extended and now makes an extremely interesting site to visit for all ages. Their is no car park except for disabled unfortunately but plenty nearby.

Close behind Carlisle Castle as a local attraction is Carlisle Cathedral, this impressive piece of architecture dates back to 1112 and has undergone extensive renovation in recent years.

Located in Castle Street is the Tullie House Museum, which maintains exhibits depicting border life throughout the ages, primarily focused upon Hadrian's Wall.

Just outside of Carlisle is the Eden valley, a dramatic landscape with the River Eden running through the centre. More intrepid explorers can trace the River Eden to its source at Hell Gill Force at Mallerstang.

For shoppers, Carlisle offers a delight in the form of Bookcase, one of the largest second hand book stores in the UK, well worth a visit.

Carlisle does have a very small local airport, although it is still under construction and offers only a limited quantity of daily flights to other cities around the UK.

Another option to enter Carlisle and probably the easiest is by train. There are local rail connections to other towns in the area as well as intercity links to London and other southern towns.

If you need to book your driving test in Carlisle then the theory test is located at number 10 A Lowther Street, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 8DA.

Before you are able to pass your practical test you need to have a theory test, pass it then take your practical test.

This is the first thing you need to do before you can sit your practical driving test. Once you have passed the theory you can then move on to your practical.

The practicaltest centre is as follows, Carlisle Driving Test Centre, Hill Crest Avenue, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA1 2QJ. This test centre has an average pass rate of fifty five percent which is in line with the national average.

Always prepare yourself as best as you can before sitting either tests. Do as much research as you can so you feel comfortable and confident with what you are about to take on.

There are lots of mack theory tests on-line so use a search engine to find one and start swotting up. If you own an iphone they have a free application you can download which is excellent.

I hope this has been a helpful guide for everyone, look out for my next article which will be a more in depth article about the theory test itself and also a separate article about the driving test.
