Virginian's love their cars. From used cars in Virginia Beach to shining new sports cars in Norfolk, Virginian's love to drive. From interstate, primary, secondary and frontage roads there is a lot of cement connecting Virginia to her neighboring states.

Virginia boasts about 58,000 miles of state-maintained roads, and an additional 10,550 of urban streets maintained by local cities and towns. You could drive for a very long time and not see all there is to see in this beautiful state! The interstates account for 1,118 miles of four-to-ten lanes of highways that connect the major cities and bordering states.

Interstate 64 is the path between West Virginia and Chesapeake and was constructed in 1957. Interstate 66 is the link between the North of Strasburg and the District of Columbia; it too was built in 1957. The late 50's were a time of great road interstate construction as Interstate 77 ties North Carolina to West Virginia. Tennessee and West Virginia are linked with Interstate 81, and North Carolina and Petersburg are paved together with Interstate 85. Two more interstates are presently under proposal to connect North Carolina and West Virgina.

The state routes were built in the early 1930's and 1940's when the country was digging out of the Great Depression. These early State routes have been used by millions of tourist and locals to weave their way past beautiful country and historical landmarks.

Route 1 connects North Carolina to the District of Columbia. State Route 2 connects Richmond to Fredericksburg; State Route 5 is the tie between Richmond and Williamsburg, a favorite among tourist. State Route 8 links North Carolina and Christiansburg. The lists go on and on as travelers happily speed past busy cities and lazy cattle grazing in their fields.

Wherever you travel in Virginia, you are in for a treat. Virginia is truly a treasure with great historical locations like Williamsburg, Alexandria Historical District, Bacon's Castle, Christ Church in Lancaster, Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters, James Monroe's law office and tomb, Thomas Jefferson's home in Monticello, Montpelier, the home of James Madison, Petersburg, and George Washington's home to beautiful beaches and stunning wooded area.

Whether driving a used car in Virginia Beach or a sports car in Norfolk, Virginia is a plethora of interstate, primary, secondary, and frontage roads linking the past to the present and the State to her surrounding neighbors.
