Dressing Up Your Chihuahua

People enjoy dressing up their Chihuahuas for many different reasons. Some people may do it to give them a bit of style, others may do it to help protect them, or some people might just to it because it's the "cool" thing to do. Whatever the reason, dressing up your Chihuahua can be a fun experience, and create a moment to remember with your loving Chihuahua.

Chihuahuas wearing clothes has become more and more common over the last decade. It seems like now, the majority of Chihuahua owners have at least some form of clothes for their tiny ones to wear, even if it is just a simple t-shirt. You can see Chihuahuas wearing clothes in magazines, television commercials, and even in the arms of famous celebrities.

If you are thinking of dressing your Chihuahua up in clothes, there are some things you need to remember.

* Size - Lets face it, not all Chihuahuas are the the same size. I've seen Chihuahuas ranging from two pounds to twenty pounds. Depending on where you purchase the clothing from, it should have a size in inches. Measure your Chihuahua before you go shopping to make sure the clothes will fit.
* Material - Chihuahua clothes are made in many different materials. It is important to make sure it is a comfortable material before you make them wear it. One of the most common types of material is cotton; it is soft, comfortable, and lightweight. This makes cotton a great choice. You should avoid any thick, or hard material, such as leather, or a leather substitute. These can be hot, rough, and just plain uncomfortable for any dog to wear.
* Type - There are many different types of clothing available for Chihuahuas. Some of the most popular are shirts, sweaters, hoodies, jackets, costumes, and dresses. You need to ask yourself what type of clothing your Chihuahua needs. If it is for winter, consider getting a sweater, or if it for a Halloween party, go for a costume. The most important thing to remember is to have fun choosing the clothes.
* Quality - Most of the Chihuahua clothes I have come across have been made very well. However, there are always a few bad apples of the bunch. Make sure any clothes you plan on getting for your Chihuahua are made well. It's easy for poorly made clothes to fall apart while they are on a rambunctious Chihuahua. You can usually tell simply by inspecting them closeup, looking for any tears, loose threading, or other signs of imperfections.

Dressing up your Chihuahua in clothes is more than just making a fashion statement. It's telling the world that your Chihuahua is pampered, and they are a part of your life. I wish you and your Chihuahua the best of luck!
